Attendance registers

If you would like your child and yourself to be included on the attendance register (for the purpose of church school admissions) then please download and complete the following form:
REGISTER FORM - ST MARY'S
REGISTER FORM - ST JAMES'
Some of the frequently asked questions about the registers are below:

Why are you doing an attendance register?
So that we can provide data to schools for their admissions process which is as fair and as objective as possible.

When and how can I sign the register?
The Church Warden, or another member of the PCC, will have the register at the back of the church.  After the service has finished, please see them and they will tick you as being present. It will not be possible to mark anyone as present before or during the service.

I'm new to church - how do I get on the register?
You can either download and complete the form above, or pick one up at the back of either church. Just hand it in to whoever is doing the register that week, so that they can mark you as present for that week.

I want to be on the registers at St Mary's AND St James' - is that possible?
Yes - just download both forms above (or pick them up from the respective churches) and hand them in at the respective churches following a Sunday or midweek service.

What about Sunday School registers?
Sunday School registers only cover part of the year. Also, for various reasons not all children applying for church school places attend Sunday School. Finally, Sunday School registers don't record the attendance of parents or legal guardians.

What if my child attends Sunday School but we don't sign in to the church register?
You will not be counted as present for that week.

What about our attendance before February 2019 - how will that be recorded?
Eventually we will have enough data to provide a 100% accurate picture of attendance over the period of time that schools ask us for (typically 4-5 years for secondary schools). Until that time, we will use the register data to determine the frequency of church attendance, and other methods to determine the length of church attendance.

We can't always attend church with our children, so they are accompanied by another relative. Why won't you mark their attendance?
Schools decide what data they will use to make admissions decisions, and we have no influence over this. Of the three schools which members of our congregation most frequently apply to:
  • Crompton House secondary school and St Mary's High Crompton primary school ask about attendance of children and their parent(s) or legal guardian(s); and
  • The Blue Coat secondary school only asks about attendance of children.

Does it matter if two parents / legal guardians attend a service, instead of one?
No, there is only one mark for attendance of parent(s) or legal guardian(s) for each week.

What happens if we attend St James' on some weeks and St Mary's on other weeks?
Your attendance at both churches will be recorded. When it comes to applying, for each school you will fill out two supplementary forms - one for each church - and the schools will combine the data from the two forms.

Will the attendance registers be available at midweek services?
Yes, attending a midweek service 'counts' as attending church for that week, and registers will be available at those services.

Will we get two attendance marks if we come to a Sunday service AND a midweek service in the following week?
No, it is only possible to get one attendance mark per week. If you attend on Sunday, the following Tuesday and Wednesday count as the same week, so you wouldn't get another mark for that same week.
