St James' church choir

Our choir not only keeps busy rehearsing and singing the music at the choral services but also has quite a busy social life with events and outings taking place throughout the year.

  • Summer outing with picnic and games.
  • Occasional visits to places of interest.
  • Visit to Liverpool Cathedral.
  • Winter Walk – Hollingworth Lake.
  • Annual B.B.Q.

Over the past few years we have also had visits to sing at other churches and various outings.

  • Bridgewater Hall – Manchester – Organtastic event
  • York Minster and City
  • Liverpool Cathedral for Advent Carol Service
  • Museum of Science and Industry – Manchester
  • Oldham Parish Church
  • St. Luke’s Church – Heywood – To sing at a Songs of Praise and also the Archdeacons Visitation.
  • St. Michael’s Church – Peel Green – Eccles – To sing Evensong
  • Ten pin Bowling at Ashton-U-Lyne.
  • Choir Festival – Rochdale Parish Church

Around Advent Sunday each year we have our prize-giving during which we say a big thank you to all our choristers for their hard work and commitment over the past year.

There is always room for more members in our choir and at the moment we have vacancies for young trebles, boys or girls. Musical ability is not a necessity but it obviously does help if you enjoy singing. We also have room for one or two more adults to join our small but loyal band of singers. If you are interested or know of anyone interested please contact the choirmaster Mr Mark Johnson.
